The Knowledge Builder is built on a Client\Server architecture providing a minimal client footprint and an optimized data structure that minimizes network traffic loads. It does not require a discrete file server or web server. Virtually any computer can serve as the Knowledge Builder Server or Knowledge Builder client. The following table lists the minimum recommended computer platforms for operating the Knowledge Builder Client and Server components.

Like any networked connection, throughput performance between a Knowledge Builder Client and its Server is subject to the total traffic load on the network at any one time. You can improve the performance of the Knowledge Builder in a networked client/server configuration, and the Knowledge Builder's impact to the network throughput, by carefully managing your search operations. Carefully selecting the type of installation topology you deploy can also improve performance.
